WE WANT TO SEE “EDIFICIO ESPAÑA”
With the recent announcement in eldiario.es reporting that Banco Santander has decided to prohibit the exhibition of the the documentary Edificio España directed by Victor Moreno, the undersigned citizens would like to express our profound dismay and rejection for a resolution that we consider excessive and severe.
As Victor Moreno expressed himself, “Edificio España is nothing more than a rigorous and faithful depiction of the internal demolition of a landmark building”. We believe that this film cannot be held responsible for harming the interests of a banking institution that the film does not refer to at any point. We believe that Banco Santander is infringing the work of an independent filmmaker by exerting a clear abuse of power and thus setting a bad example to our society.
We appeal to Banco Santander to honour its commitment to the culture and support to the artists through its Foundation and also through its various institutional partnerships. By keeping this decition the institution may be seriously compromised. When silenced, culture and arts generate an irreparable damage to our freedom, and it’s our duty to stop these anomalies that does not belong in a free and democratic society.
Therefore, we urge the managing directors of the corporate entity Banco Santander -responsible citizens like ourselves, committed to the construction and improvement of our current and future society- to rectify and authorize the public exhibition of the film Edificio España as its creators originally conceived it.
